Hello, my name is John Koopman, Principal of Markesan Middle/High School. This is my 5th year as Principal and I am proud to serve the students, staff, and community of Markesan. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UW-La Crosse and my Principal Licensure from Viterbo University. I started my teaching career at Hillsboro Middle/High School in 2000 as a Physical Education and Health teacher where I spent the next 14 years. I also served as an assistant football and baseball coach, as well as the varsity boys basketball coach. I am currently the varsity boys basketball coach for the Hornets.
I grew up in Cassville, WI graduating from CHS in 1995. I am an avid Badger, Brewer, and Packer fan and enjoy just about any kind of sport. Outside of the school day, I spend my time with family and friends and try to get to as many Badger football and basketball games as my schedule will allow. My wife Beth is a Family Consumer Science teacher at Markesan and has also spent time in the dental field and teaching at the Technical College level. We have three energetic boys (Aaron, Alex, and Harrison) that are the center of our lives. Aaron and Alex both attend Markesan Elementary School and Harrison will join them in a couple of years.
Markesan Middle/High School consists of 257 High School students (9-12) and 187 Middle School students (6-8).
